Health Science

Students will explore careers and develop skills pertinent and transferable to a wide variety of health occupations, such as;  emergency medicine, nursing, certified nursing assistant, medical assistant, radiology, laboratory, ultrasound, occupational and physical therapy, respiratory therapy, forensic science, criminal justice, and various other health related careers. Additional curriculum includes knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical first responder, fire science skills, and defense tactics. Students will create a resume, portfolio as well as learn employability skills and receive “soft skills” employment training. Students will experience related classroom instruction with “hands-on” training and introduction to Health Science careers. Students who successfully complete their curriculum may gain additional training through “on-site” work experience with local professionals in their chosen field.

Students are given the opportunity to participate at the Regional and State Health Occupations Students of America competition. Upon successful completion of training, students may earn certification in First Aid, CPR/AED, Blood Borne pathogens, and hazardous material awareness.  With successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant Program, students are eligible to take the State Certified Nursing Assistant test.
